Overstruck on a follis of Anastasius I

SASANIAN KINGS. Khosrau II, 591-628. Follis (Bronze, 36 mm, 15.79 g, 5 h), imitating a Byzantine follis of Phocas and Leontia, uncertain mint, struck during the Sasanian occupation of Syria, 610-629. Phocas and Leontia standing facing, each crowned and holding cross-tipped scepter in right hand; above, cross. Rev. Large M in center; above, cross; in fielt to left, A/N/N/O; in field to right, blundered regnal year; below, A; in exergue, blundered mint name. Pottier Class II. Heavy traces of overstriking and with some scrapes on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.

This interersting issue was overstruck on a follis of Anastasius I (491-518) from Constantinopolis (cf. SB 19)
